Skin needling- Everything you need, and want to know!
Why is skin needling becoming so popular?
It’s all in the name of beauty! In fact, after wondering what this could possibly help with I went and searched high and low on all the benefits, how it works, what happens and all the other questions which naturally arise about this very popular treatment.
So what is skin needling?
Skin needling is basically when cartridges of multiple fine needles are passed into the skin at different depths for treatments of particular problems. As the needles lightly damage the skin, it tricks your skin into renewing itself, which starts to create new cells and collagen in response.
So far on my research I’ve found a very popular skin needling treatment called Dermapen. This has been around for about 4 years and has proven now to be a fad amongst the stars and a widely trusted skin needling option. I was also very excited to have found a new, more advanced contender for the skin needling race… Radio-Frequency Micro-Needling! Now I know what you’re thinking, that’s a really big and confusing name. But let me break it down for you in a way that’s easy to understand because let’s be honest, not many of us have any clue what Radio-Frequency is. So from what I understand, Radio-Frequency Micro-needling has the same micro needles as the Dermapen but with added radio frequency energy that is applied deep into your skin as the needle passes through. So through this process, it heats up the deeper layers of your skin unlike other treatments which only target the top layers, and by heating up the inner layers it helps promote collagen production.
As I get older the less plump my skin looks, so I’ll take all the collagen I can get! The fantastic thing about radio frequency micro needling is that it’s targeted to the inner layers of the skin. I always think to myself how skin problems are more than just the outer layer, so it excites me that this treatment can target areas that I just simply can’t on my own.
Does it treat acne scarring?
Also, I really wanted to share the coolest thing about skin needling with my darling people out there who have suffered with acne and have been left with scars… I think I need a drum roll for this one….. Yes YES yes… Radio-frequency micro-needling will, and can help get rid of your acne scarring!!! So you don’t have to live with them anymore! Your self-confidence can be restored if those scars had ever given you a lack of confidence. I for one believe it is so incredible to be able to offer someone the chance to regain confidence and feel more themselves after suffering with something like acne scars! This also applies to other scars as well. So if you banged your head as a kid and cut it open, leaving you with a visible and unloved scar on either your body or face then yes, radio frequency micro needling will also help you!
The likes of our beloved Kim Kardashian is a great lover of this and have you seen her skin? It’s quite incredible! On my ventures in to this unfamiliar world of skin needling I have seen quite a few videos of the procedure being performed. It looked quite full on. But after reading into it more and more, I came to my next question.
Does it hurt?
This is such a good question- one would think that having hundreds of needles in your skin would hurt, and although I can’t speak from experience I am however putting trust in my fellow skin needling lovers and their honest thoughts and opinions about it. Most establishments who offer this treatment also offer numbing cream. I can literally hear all your sighs of relief as I write this… Like others, I was instantly thinking how fantastic this is – I won’t even have to feel all the needles on my face! This cream is applied 30-60 minutes prior to your treatment to ensure the least discomfort.
How much does it cost?
The Dermapen method is around the $300 for the full face, whilst Radio-frequency is roughly $650; also for the full face.
The treatments are done every 4-6 weeks and the number needed will vary from face to face, depending on what you want to achieve. For example, surface rejuvenation and fine wrinkles will only require treatment once or twice, whilst to acne scars, deeper wrinkles or large pores can require four to five treatments.
