The truth about anti-wrinkle injections
Anti-wrinkle injections – Answers to all the common questions
Have you thought about getting anti-wrinkle injections but have some doubts or questions? We’ve put together answers to some of the most asked questions to help you on your treatment journey.
Do anti-wrinkle injections actually remove wrinkles?
Wrinkles are caused by a combination of issues. As we age, the amount of collagen and hyaluronic acid in our skin depletes causing the saggy skin effect. In addition to this, over-active muscles in key facial areas actually cause deep lines and wrinkles. Anti-wrinkle injections work by injecting a muscle relaxing agent into these active facial muscles. Relaxing the muscle beneath the skin works to smooth out the outer skin layer, reducing the appearance of lines.
This effect also helps as a preventative measure. If the muscle is already relaxed it will not cause skin folds and lines appearing that eventually lead to permanent wrinkles.
Are anti-wrinkle injections safe?
We are often asked if anti-wrinkle treatment is safe and with more and more beauty therapists and cosmetic dentist offering this service, it’s hard to know who to trust. The experienced and highly trained team at Skin Doctor SA has a superior understanding of each of our patients’ skin and the anti-wrinkle treatment which is right for them.
It is always advised to visit a professional service when receiving anti-wrinkle injections. Even when the same products are in use, a certain level of skill is necessary to assess the ideal placement and injection technique required. At Skin Doctor SA our highly-skilled team aims to give you the look you desire without that frozen, expressionless look.
What is the cost of anti-wrinkle injections?
The cost of your treatment will always depend upon your individual treatment plan. Some patients require more injections than others and will therefore incur and greater cost. At Skin Doctor SA, we believe we offer competitive pricing for the superior service we provide. Again, it is always better to receive a professional service to ensure the safety and accuracy of your treatment.
What areas can anti-wrinkle injections treat?
Often patients come to us with various ‘problem areas.’ Anti-wrinkle treatments provided at Skin Doctor SA are effective in reducing wrinkles in the following areas:
- Forehead
- Crows feet
- Frown lines
We also provide dermal fillers which can be used to treat lines in the following areas:
- Chin
- Cheeks
- Lips
- Nasolabial areas
What’s the difference between anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers?
Both of these treatments aim to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles in patients however, they target different areas of the skin. As discussed earlier, anti-wrinkle injections target the source of the wrinkle in the muscle. In contrast, dermal fillers are injected into the actual skin, aiming to ‘fill out’ the visible lines. For more information these two treatments read our previous blog here.
How long does anti-wrinkle treatment last?
Again, treatment is always dependent upon an individual treatment plan, how severe the wrinkles appear and how many previous treatments the patient has received. Generally treatment can last between 3-6 months. Top-up treatments can increase this to 6-12months.
